Job Description
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Podcast Audio-Video Technician to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing the technical aspects of podcast production, ensuring high-quality audio and video recordings. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in operating cameras, audio mixers, and AV equipment, along with an understanding of professional lighting and shot composition. This position requires a hands-on, proactive approach to both on-site and studio-based recordings.
Key Responsibilities:
Audio-Visual Equipment Operation:
- Set up, operate, and monitor audio mixers to ensure clear and balanced sound.
- Operate professional-grade cameras for high-quality video recordings.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues during recording sessions.
Video Production:
- Frame subjects using best practices for composition and aesthetics.
- Adjust camera settings to optimize image quality, including ISO, shutter speed, and aperture, understanding the exposure triangle.
- Capture multiple camera angles and perspectives as needed.
Lighting Expertise:
- Set up and adjust lighting for optimal subject exposure and ambiance.
- Ensure lighting setups are consistent and appropriate for the production style.
- Troubleshoot lighting equipment and adjust for various recording environments.
Equipment Management:
- Load, unload, and transport AV equipment safely and efficiently.
- Maintain and organize equipment inventory, performing regular checks to ensure all gear is in working order.
- Recommend equipment upgrades or replacements when necessary.
Post-Production Support (Optional):
- Collaborate with editors to provide high-quality raw footage and audio files.
- Assist in syncing audio and video for multi-camera setups.
General Support:
- Work closely with producers, hosts, and guests to ensure a smooth recording process.
- Assist with setting up the studio for recordings, including arranging furniture and props.
- Maintain a clean and organized studio space.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience operating professional cameras and audio mixers in a studio or live setting.
- Strong understanding of the exposure triangle (ISO, aperture, shutter speed) and framing techniques.
- Knowledge of lighting principles and the ability to light shots effectively.
- Physical capability to load, unload, and transport AV equipment.
- Excellent troubleshooting skills and the ability to work under pressure.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for working with clients and team members.
- Availability to work flexible hours, including weekends or evenings, as required.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with video editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro).
- Familiarity with podcasting platforms and workflows.
- Knowledge of audio editing and post-production techniques.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Comfort with standing, bending, and moving equipment for extended periods.
