About the Studio Spain

Our Principal Creative Director, Erin Spain, hosts and produces Breakthroughs, a top medical and science podcast. She has had her work shared around the world and placed in top news outlets, such as The New York Times and highlighted in publications and textbooks.

Before spending more than a decade in higher education and health care communication, Erin worked for Oprah XM Radio and Oprah.com, home of The Oprah Winfrey Show and was a local news reporter and anchor in TV markets across the Midwest.


Job Description

Immerse yourself in podcasting, one of the most exciting areas of storytelling and media production today. Studio Spain Media Group, LLC, is looking for several motivated, creative, deadline-driven people to take on pre-production and post-production work for top-tier higher education and health care podcasts.
This part-time, remote, contract position will range from one to two assignments per week at the rate of $350 per assignment. This could grow into more assignments per week for the right person! All work can be preformed in off hours, as long as deadlines are met.

What You'll Do

  • Script Development: research guests and topics providing citations from credible sources, draft scripts and notes for Q&A style podcasts.
  • Post-Production: edit high quality raw audio tracks into a multitrack mixdown for review, adjusting audio to improve the sound, removing filler words, mistakes, mouth noises and making specific edits as requested. Must use a digital audio workstation (DAW) such as Adobe Audition. Most assignments are less than 40 minutes of raw audio edited into a 20 to 30 minute episode.

  • Promotion: format and copy edit transcripts, write show notes using AP Style.

  • Client Communication: on occasion interact and provide customer service to clients from the higher education and health care fields in a professional manner. You may also have the opportunity to sit in on virtual podcast recordings if desired.


Qualifications


  • Experience in media production or news-gathering in fields such as podcasting, journalism, radio, TV or film.
  • Intellectual curiosity and an interest in topics in higher education and health care is a must.
  • Excellent writer and editor, basic knowledge of AP style, professional demeanor and customer service skills.
  • Willingness to learn an established workflow.

Required Equipment and Software

  • Must have reliable computer with a DAW you can use to complete required editing assignments, including industry standard audio repair tools/plugins.
  • Comfortable working in Google documents.


Must be legally authorized to work in the United States, comfortable working in a remote setting.


Skills

Adobe Audition or equivalent; AP style, research and fact checking, copy editing AI-generated transcriptions, ability to understand results of published medical research articles
